Previously, Isnaeni worked as a Technical Advisor in a private company. He has expertise in tax audit and investigation, and was part of the committee responsible for drafting tax regulations in 1999, 2000, 2005, and 2006.
Isnaeni has a career spanning over 38 years in the Directorate General of Taxation, serving in various leadership positions such as Head of Regional Office of the Directorate General of Tax for the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia in East Kalimantan, East Jakarta, and West Java, as well as Head of the Large Tax Office, which was one of the top 3 revenue-generating offices in Indonesia; and Head of the Foreign Investment Tax Office.
With experience as a tax investigator since 1987, he has a wealth of experience in conducting examinations for foreign investment and large private company taxpayers. His span of experience has gained him expert in areas such as tax audit, corporate tax, tax objections, tax appeals, and providing tax accounting services.

Pajak memang bukan hal yang asing bagi Isnaeni, karena ayahnya bertugas sebagai pegawai pajak. Namun, ia tidak pernah bercita-cita menekuninya. Bahkan, setelah lulus dari SMA Negeri 1 Jakarta pada 1978 silam, ia mengambil jurusan program studi Teknik Sipil di Universitas Indonesia.
